Community Classes

Weekend Community Classes are designed for people who cannot schedule the full-time attendance required for our Workshops and other programs. Community Classes provide the same outstanding instructors and facilities in a more accessible time format. Classes are held Saturday and Sunday 9-5.

Whether you've recently started woodturning or have been at it for a while, this course can advance your skills to the next level. With Beth’s guidance, participants gain precision and explore hollow turning by making lidded boxes and containers.                                                                                                                  

Open to all except absolute beginners.


Make a Dulcimer Stick

March 25 & 26, 2017

Build a simple stringed instrument in two days, whether your background is in woodworking or music! Beth offers instruction in woodworking techniques such as safe use of the bandsaw, router, and drill press, plus hand shaping. She also addresses musical aspects of instrument making such as fretting, sound, scale, and tuning.

Open to all.


Beth Ireland has been a professional woodworker in Roslindale, MA, since 1983, specializing in turning and sculpture. She holds an M.F.A from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, and her work has been widely exhibited and published, including a 2015 profile in American Woodturner. She has also held several prestigious Windgate Fellowships and participated in the International Turning Exchange. Beth’s business encompasses everything from production runs of turned balusters to sculpture to one-of-a-kind stringed instruments. She is the Lead Instructor for our Turning Intensive and her website is bethireland.net.

 


Additional Community Classes are generally offered during the months of November and December. The fall 2017 schedule should be posted to the school’s web site by September 15, 2017.

 

 

Eligibility:

Community Woodturning Classes are open to anyone who is 16 years of age or older.

 

Registration and Payment Information:

Please call our office at 207-594-5611 to check availability and to register for a class.

    • Community Class tuition is payable in full at the time of registration.
    • If you withdraw from a Community Class more than seven days in advance, we will refund your tuition less a $35 cancellation fee. 
    • No refund will be given for withdrawal within seven days of a Community Class.
    • We accept personal checks, Visa, MasterCard, and American Express.
    • In the event that the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship must cancel a class, we will promptly refund the full tuition amount.
