September 17-21

Participants explore the creative possibilities of incised decoration on lathe-turned vessels, boxes, and platters. Harvey, who is a pioneer in this area, shares his specialized techniques and custom tooling for the first time ever in a workshop. Beth shares her expertise in a broad variety of turning techniques. Together, they work closely with participants to achieve a pleasing marriage of incised surface and overall form.

Each student develops several different projects during the week, experimenting with the potential that different turned forms offer for incised decoration. Participants work with custom router arms of Harvey’s design that are the secret to his incising techniques. They also learn to make cutting tools of their own.
