William Doub
William graduated from the North Bennett Street School in Boston in 1973, where he received a strong foundation in classical furniture-making. He has maintained a custom furniture business since then, founding cooperative shops in Portsmouth, NH 1973-1989, and later Honolulu, HI, Culver City, CA, and Boulder, CO. He was an Artist-in-Residence for the Furniture Institute of Massachusetts from 1998-2003, then established William Doub Custom Furniture in Deerfield, NH. At this larger facility, there are opportunities for serious apprentice-journeymen. He is committed to inspiring others to follow in the pursuit of their own artistic expression.
"In my own designs, I am striving to reflect the natural environment around me, and sometimes the site or environment where the piece will be placed. I want to make a connection with nature and history, or both, to create functional art that will be aesthetically pleasing and physically enduring for as long as possible."
