“The Series 2 Dining Chair reflects the designer’s continuing interest in advancing the current thinking about the ergonomics of seating. He has determined that a chair back with a static lumbar shape, even though perfectly fitted to an individual’s back, still becomes uncomfortable within a short period of time. What our backs really want is the ability to stretch and ‘reset’ the muscles while still having a supportive shape. The three back slats are ‘spring loaded’ in the chair, much like the strings of a musical instrument. The bridge is located just below the back of the seat. The flexing slats allow for continuous and interactive support along the full length of the spine. The unusual angle of the cantilevered armrest is also an ergonomic innovation, allowing the muscle groups from the neck to the wrists to ‘open’ into a comfortable, neutral position.”
