Lee Schuette

Lee earned a BA in Art from the University of New Hampshire where he was introduced to woodworking. “Art Furniture” quickly became the focus of Lee’s work in wood. He earned his Masters of Fine Arts (MFA) at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) under master craftsman, teacher & designer Tage Frid.

His custom wooden objects are in private and public collections throughout the country. His work is exhibited in several Museums and Corporate Collections including the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Renwick Gallery and the National Building Museum in the Smithsonian, Portland Museum of Art and Yale Museum of Art among others.

“I have a deep respect for forms of the past but I also love to work with the tools and materials of my time.  I-Hepplewhite  is an “offspring” inspired by an anonymous Salem chair  in the Kaufman collection.  It incorporates a timeless form with new materials and process. My intention was to create a chair that says, “there is something new going on here”, that is what makes it and “offspring”. ”
