Joe Tracy

Joe attended the School for American Crafts from 1970 through 1976. During this time he spent ten months abroad advancing his studies in Norway and Sweden.  He has lived and worked on Mt. Desert Island since 1976, building mostly commissioned furniture.  His articles have been published in Fine Woodworking, Woodwork and Home Furniture.  A member of the New Hampshire Furniture Masters, Joe’s work can be seen at MFA in Boston and the Wolfsonian Museum in Florida.  He is currently an exhibitor in “Inspired by China” at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts.

“Dining chairs must first and foremost be comfortable - - not for a half-hour or even an hour. Try an hour and a half, the length of a leisurely dinner with friends.  I would much prefer to own a comfortable dining chair of average appearance than a stunningly beautiful dining chair that I couldn’t wait to get out of.”
