Bob Stocksdale
Bob Stocksdale was a pioneering American woodturner, known for his exquisite bowls formed from rare and exotic woods. He was born in Warren, Indiana, in 1913 and raised on a farm. He disliked farm work, but enjoyed working with tools. He powered his first lathe with a surplus Maytag gasoline washing machine motor. His work gradually earned him acclaim and fame as a woodturner. His bowls are in many collections and museums, and often sell for thousands of dollars. You can always tell a Stocksdale bowl by their beautifully revealed grain and elegant simplicity of shape.
