Libby Schrum
Libby began her furniture-making career five years ago when she enrolled in a Twelve-week Intensive Program here at the Center. She served as a workshop assistant for ten weeks, and became an Artist in Residence in 2002. After spending two years learning the process of furniture making, Libby moved to Providence, Rhode Island to further her education in design. In 2005 she received her Masters in Fine Art from Rhode Island School of Design and returned to Maine. Libby is a current Studio Fellow here at the Center.
"My goal as a designer/maker is to create furniture that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing - rich with details that draw the audience a step closer with each additional viewing. I believe that a piece of furniture should stand on its own, yet be compatible with its surroundings. I hope that my furniture, as a means of self-expression, speaks of not only what is important to me, but also how I look at the world and that which fascinates me."
