“As a furniture maker, I use veneer and pre-milled lumber in most of my projects. Woodturning; however, allows me to get closer to the source of the material. It provides an education in the anatomy of the tree and its various properties.

I enjoy the experiential nature of turning. I might get wet turning green wood, smell the pleasant aroma of olivewood, or feel the wonder of working with an ancient piece of bogwood. A chunk of firewood might catch my eye before landing in the woodstove, and provide the inspiration for a unique piece of art
