“Stools of this size and shape can be found throughout East Asia being used by peddlers on the sidewalks, workers on break, grandmothers in their gardens or watching children. They can be easily carried around and fit on the back of a bicycle, and function as the everyman’s seat.
This stool uses traditional techniques of furniture craftsmanship, using no glue or fasteners. Only the mechanical strength of the joints holds the stool together in such a way that the more weight applied to the stool, the more solid the joints.
Aesthetically, the stool draws from the Chinese furniture tradition and adapts elite aesthetic forms to a decidedly plebian purpose.”
