Tom Weis moved to Rockland, Maine in 1998 to pursue a two-year apprenticeship building traditional wooden boats. He then went on to work as a technical assistant for the artist Martin Puryear from 2000 to 2002. After spending several years restoring wooden boats and building custom furniture and cabinetry, Weis returned to graduate school in 2006. He recently graduated with a Masters in Industrial Design from the Rhode Island School of Design and has returned to Rockland where he currently works as a freelance designer and builder.
