TIM ROUSSEAU
Tim completed the Center's Twelve-Week Intensive Program in 1998, and stayed on as workshop assistant, and then artist in residence (Studio Fellow). He then moved to a highly-regarded cooperative studio in Hoboken, New Jersey where he was able to build furniture on commission and work collaboratively with the studio's other makers. In 2002 he returned to Maine settling in Appleton and became the Center's first resident instructor. Over the course of the following years he transitioned back to building furniture full time, as well as leading two of the Center's Twelve-week Intensive Programs annually, Tim regards himself as much a teacher as a furniture maker.
“When I was a studio fellow here, there was only one building and we didn’t call the position “Studio Fellow” it was “Artist in Residence”, which at the time was code for free labor. It was great time. I made my first commission with the comfort of the school’s staff around me - a rocking chair. Sometimes I can’t believe how much has changed at the school, but on the other hand, it has felt like it has been heading here all along. Thanks Peter!!!”
