KRISTIN TERPENING

Kristin spent fifteen years as a professional biologist.  Through taking woodworking courses at a local community college she discovered that creating her own furniture was very important to her.  In 2003 she made a significant life change.  Selling her home in Austin, Texas she relocated to Maine to pursue furniture making as a full-time career.  Kristin recently completed a yearlong Studio Fellowship at the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship, and is presently doing interior cabinetry at Lyman Morse Boatbuilding in Thomaston, Maine.

“I love really good, fresh-roasted coffee.  “Java Jive” is a means by which I’ve combined my passion for the ritual and romance of coffee with the art of creating furniture. This piece is intended as a fun way to invite you to look a bit deeper into the significance of coffee in the world marketplace.  Dozens of pairs of hands are involved in the production of a cup of coffee, from growing the beans, to harvesting, drying, sorting, transporting, shipping, delivering, roasting, brewing, and serving.  A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this screen will go to “Coffee Kids”, a non-profit organization created to improve the quality of life for children and families who live in coffee-growing communities around the world.”
