"My work consists of three components: Turned, carved wood. The wood is evident. Interesting grains and patterns are featured, though they remain secondary to carving in the overall design of the piece. Soft finishes emphasize the character of the wood.
The turning is also evident. There is no doubt that my work has its genesis on the lathe, even when some ingenuity has been necessary to secure it for shaping.
I design my work to feature carving with strong sculptural or pictorial content. I investigate how a lathe-turned shape might integrate the carving. It projects from the bowl or vessel rather than simply embellishing the surface of a classic shape with an incised design."
