"My work the last few years has increasingly been focused on decorative pattern. I decided that I want to make a bed using a quilt pattern as its dominating element, because I wanted to go through the process of quilting that mimics the process of a woman making a quilt. I found a quilt made during the Depression in Missouri that has over 6,000 triangles stitched together. I am amazed that someone would spend so much time making something just to stay warm. This quilt is the canopy of the bed. The platform of the bed, as well as the valance, are covered in triangles of the same size and at least the same quantity. I found that the work was quite meditative, and therefore, calming and peaceful. Men need to embrace the idea of doing ‘woman’s work’. In finding a balance between the sexes, it will not be enough just to bring just to bring women into the realm of ‘men’s work’."
