Andrea Barra
A graduate of Stonehill College in 2001 with a degree in Psychology and Sociology, Andrea worked in various positions before trying her hand at woodworking. Starting by taking the Twelve-week Intensive course at the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship in 2004, she immediately knew she had found her niche. Since then she has worked as an assistant during summer workshops here at the Center with instructors Teri Masachi and Chris Pye. She has also worked as the custom order/prototype maker for a successful New York furniture company before enrolling in the Nine-month Comprehensive program. Andrea is dedicated to furniture making as a full-time pursuit and would like to stay in the area after the course’s completion in June.
“In woodworking I feel I have discovered a medium for creativity that was quietly dormant before. The subtleties of design and construction offer enough challenge to interest one full-time for years, while affording so many opportunities to create beautiful functional pieces.
I’m grateful to have found work that truly inspires me. My goal is to contribute and respond to others sensibilities through my present and future work. “
