Liz grew up in North Carolina and went to the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill majoring in History and French. For the past ten years, she has been a magazine editor living in Boston, Massachusetts. Liz began to tire of office work and wanted to do something extremely tangible; she became intrigued with woodworking. After taking classes at North Bennett Street School in the spring of 2006, she didn’t want to stop. Liz applied for the Nine-month Comprehensive and after completion she hopes to make at least part of her living as a furniture maker working in a small cooperative shop.
“Progressing from an idea to a drawing to an actual object is such a satisfying creative experience. I'm looking forward to continuing to develop my design and building skills and to exploring the use of other materials in my furniture--salvaged wood, metal, stone. A huge thank you to my classmates and instructors for always inspiring me.” - Liz Phillips
