Jack Rodie
York, Maine
Jack entered college with a major in architecture and graduated with a finance degree. After a corporate career, he started his own successful business as a remodeling contractor. After completing the Nine-month Comprehensive he plans to continue with his business with a shift of focus, working mostly with architects and interior designers. He hopes that being more of a subcontractor will allow more time for design work and his own projects. Jack also plans to teach woodworking on a part time basis at the high school or junior college level. He would like to show young adults that a career in a craft or trade-oriented field is a viable career offering a tremendous amount of personal satisfaction.
“I approach each design from a human element starting with the basics such as how will the piece be used, how will it fit in the living space, how will it affect the users in their daily lives. I then go a little deeper looking to elicit an emotional response to the object. If I can get someone to pause for just a second in their busy lives, and cause them feel warmth, beauty and a sense of connection, I have been successful as a designer.” - Jack Rodie
