Liz Vera

Brooklyn, New York

Before coming to the Center, Liz was a draftsperson in Brooklyn, New York.  It wasn’t until recently that she found a more satisfying creative vehicle in both designing and actually building furniture.  Her education in liberal arts and architecture were instructive and fascinating in many ways, but she missed a tactility and immediacy of scale --- qualities that are integral to furniture. Tempered with the awareness that fine quality trumps quantity, that details do matter, and that one can find creative inspiration in even the unlikeliest places, her appreciation for craftsmanship and thoughtful design constantly informs her work.  Liz feels very fortunate to have this opportunity for immersion and rigorous training in such a positive woodworking environment.

“In learning furniture craftsmanship, my approach focuses on challenging the limits of the wood, joinery, and ones way of seeing.  Experimentation and ideation are pivotal to this process; may the viewer share some of my joy of discovery through the resultant work.”   -  Liz Vera
