“CELEBRATING THE STUDIO FELLOWSHIP”

Opening Reception: Friday, February 20, 2009, 5 – 7 p.m.

Exhibition Dates: February 20 – April 17, 2009

New work by Studio Fellows at Messler Gallery

ROCKPORT, ME – “Celebrating the Studio Fellowship” opens at the Messler Gallery of the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship in Rockport, Maine on Friday, February 20. The opening reception will be held from 5-7 p.m. and the public is encouraged to attend. The exhibition runs through April 17.

All of the work on display—which includes everything from coffee tables and sculpture to a Modernist doghouse—has been created by current and former participants in the Center’s Studio Fellowship program. “These are fresh voices that will help to shape the future of our field,” says Peter Korn, the Center’s Executive Director. Exhibitors include Patrick Downes, Aaron Fedarko, Reuben Foat, Kevin Gill, Will Karnedy, Yuri Kobayashi, Mason McBrien, Liz Phillips, Brian Reid, Raymond Ringer, Libby Schrum and Tom Weis.

The Studio Fellowship program is an incubator for emerging furniture makers and wood artists. Six fellows at a time share free workshop space in the Center’s Jackson Building for terms ranging from a month to a year. Their primary responsibility is exploring new work, as the exhibition makes abundantly evident. Raymond Ringer, who created the doghouse, says, “The breadth of knowledge available at the Center is exhilarating. I wouldn’t trade the experience for anything!”

Messler Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. The Messler Gallery is located on the campus of the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship, at the corner of Route 90 and Mill Street in Rockport, Maine. The exhibition can also be viewed on the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship’s website, www.woodschool.org, after February 20, 2009.

The Center for Furniture Craftsmanship is a nonprofit, year-round school that offers courses in furniture making and related arts such as carving and woodturning. For more information, please call 207-594-5611 or e-mail cfc@woodschool.org.
