Turning for Furniture makers

This class is for furniture makers who want to expand their vocabularies by becoming fluent in the use of turned parts. Nick presents efficient techniques for accurate, repetitive turning of table and chair legs, stretchers, finials, drawer and door pulls, and more. Topics covered include selection and sharpening of turning tools, proper cutting techniques, stock preparation, chucking methods, layout techniques, duplication of parts, sanding, and finishing.
Participants practice both spindle and face-plate turning with spindle roughing gouges, spindle gouges, skews, parting tools, scrapers and bowl gouges. Projects include a candle stand and a four-legged stool.
Nick Cook is a versatile turner who makes production gift items and one-of-a-kind bowls and vessels that he markets through gift shops and galleries from coast to coast. From his studio in Marietta, Georgia he also provides turned parts for local furniture makers and millwork shops. Nick has been turning wood for more than 30 years and is a founding member and former Vice President of the American Association of Woodturners. He teaches extensively at schools and symposia throughout the U.S., Australia, and New Zealand.
