Scholars and Fellows

September 21, 2018 - January 2, 2019

A juried exhibition of work by former scholarship and fellowship awardees of the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship opened at the Messler Gallery in Rockport, Maine, on Friday, September 21.

The 21 pieces on display are a testament to the value of scholarships and fellowships in nurturing creative growth and technical accomplishment.  Monica Raymond, a Vermont woodworker who received a Fellowship after taking the Center’s Nine-month Comprehensive course in 2011-12, was awarded "Jurors' Best in Show" for her mitten chest crafted from quartersawn oak and walnut. Reflecting on her experience at the Center Raymond says, “My time at the school and the friendships I made have been life-changing. I came to understand the meaning of creativity and craft while learning to make beautiful furniture.”
