The Curvature Workshop was a two week intermediate/advanced course for students interested in incorporating curvilinear designs in their woodworking. Instructors Tim Rousseau and Tom Kealy covered laminate bending, steam bending, coopering, and other techniques used to create curved lines and volumes in wood.
A vacuum bag is a fantstic tool for curved work. Our workshop building has two VacuPress systems, one is kept nice and clean and only used for flat work like marquetry, while the other is used for clamping odd shapes like tapered bent laminations (pictured above).
Simple joinery becomes far more complex when using curved components. Knowing how to build safe and acurrate jigs is a big part of building curvilinear work.
